Beautifully Simple Window Treatments

I’ve never been big on home decor that is until we became homeowners. Here’s how we did our Beautifully Simple Window Treatments.

Beautifully Simple

So first off we’ve never had a bay window and no clue on how to go about even utilizing one. Sure there are plenty of ideas and inspirational images on Instagram and Pinterest but as we all know. Every space and how a family lives in it is different. We’re no exception to that.

We decided our sofa would live there as this was the only plausible location for our sofa. We have 4 windows and 4 doorways or openings into the living room. From the position of the sofa only two locations would work for the TV. Its current location isn’t ideal and I’m still hoping to find the perfect fireplace mantle to place on the wall where I want to put the TV.

But until then this is what I have to work with. Our last sofa was a dark soul and light sucking black hole of damp microfiberness. So we decided to get a new sofa. More on that later. For now lets get into these Beautifully Simple Window Treatments.

So we decided on light filtering roller shades for the bay window and to keep the 4th window free. As that window always catches the best light at the end of the day. We went through select blinds and I have to say they were the most affordable on the market and the easiest to install.

We went with the Select Fabric Light Filtering Roller Shades for that classic look. I chose the whitest hue available in this type of shade to maximize the light coming in through the bay window. These shades are such a soft white it gives the room a bright warm glow.

I went with an Inside Mount, Cordless Lift, Standard and Exposed Roll, again for that classic and timeless look. At some point, I want to attach some antique brass rings to these shades to add a touch of modern to them. I keep them down for privacy as this window faces the street and my neighbors home is directly across from me. I do want to keep it classy though.

Everything else we got from Amazon. All the links to everything I speak about will be at the end of this post. Firstly I didn’t get anything in the correct order. I piecemealed this entire thing together as I do with most things. You get a vision of what you want, hunt for it and buy what is within your budget.

The curtain rods are by Rod Desyne in Antique Brass finish. We got an adjustable bay window curtain rod for a little over $47 and an extendable window rod for $23. They were a little bit of a splurge but we went with the antique brass because I felt the other styles were too modern or too rustic. I felt the antique brass was a nice touch for our simple folk victorian home.

For the curtain rings, I wanted to find something that was subtly modern but also vintage looking. So I found these metal curtain clips in bronze. Even though they say bronze they are definitely closer to an antique brass finish and match well with the curtain rods I chose. And for less than $11 bucks for 40 rings, you can’t beat a deal like that, so I got two sets.

For the curtains, I went with lace for that time-honored historic feel that only lace can give an old home. Our ceilings aren’t very high so we put them as close to the ceiling as possible while also leaving a space at the top to give the illusion of height. We got the curtains 84″ long. I went with ivory as I felt the white was too stark a contrast with the room. Paired with the soft white roller shades it really makes the lace pattern stand out.

All pulled together the room is much brighter while at the same time feeling warm, inviting and comfortable. Just what I was going for. Yes, there are things we still want to do such as adding picture railing, painting the ceiling, install sconces and refinishing the floors to name a few. But overall the room is going in the right direction and soon we can tackle more decor and DIY projects in our home.

I didn’t give measurements or how to install as I know every home is different and there are way too many ideas already on the web on how to install window treatments. I figure having the right items is the first step, how you want to do it is all a matter of personal preference.

Last but not least we got a new sofa. I know it’s not a window treatment but I feel like the sofa added so much to this room in terms of light. It helped to brighten the room up and make the space feel more open. We got our sofa from Raymour & Flannigan. The sofa is Corliss in the color Oatmeal with Walnut stained wood feet and nail trim detailing.

This sofa is by far the best sofa for the price we paid. Which get this, we got for $599 on sale during Labor Day weekend. So when you are in the market for a sofa or any furniture for that matter try to look around sales times for the best deals. Put that extra money you save here towards your new Beautifully Simple Window Treatments.
