Life in Simple: Learning, Growing and Living Life in Simple

Welcome to Life in Simple! Join us on our adventure to live a more simple life in our 1900 Victorian Farmhouse in the country.

Life in Simple House Home

We decided, well before we went in search of the perfect home, that we wanted to live a more simple life. We had gone plant based in 2014 and were already going down a path of becoming more Eco-friendly in choosing reusable and sustainable products. Also we started shopping locally at the farmers market and choosing products from the store that were made by businesses closer to our area.

Once we’d made a list of the type of home and land we were looking for it took us another 2 yrs to find her. After much prayerful thought we finally found out old girl. Our home sits on two and half acres. We are surrounded by trees and rolling hills and old homes are dotted around us. On the hill in the distance sits an old barn, like a sentinel watching over the land.

We have a small container garden at the moment. But we want to put in a larger garden this spring. If spring ever comes. We plan on growing a large majority of our produce and preserving out harvest in as many ways as possible. At some point I would like to have a root cellar built. I have a spot already chosen for our compost bins. And in the back field I envision a fruit orchard and maybe micro-farming for supplemental income.

We moved out into the country a little over a year and a half ago. During that time we’ve painted rooms, put in an above the range microwave and vent hood combo, installed a dishwasher, applied a back splash in the kitchen, paint stripped the stairs and put in a stair runner. Which by far was the most tedious and time consuming and I already want to redo it.

Spring is Around the Corner at the Life in Simple Homestead

All in all life here is beautiful and amazing and we have so many plans and adventures in store for us, this home and this land. We hope you will follow along on them with us. Winter is coming to a close and spring is just around the corner. Soon the temperatures will rise and all those winter dreams will come to fruition and we can implement them into our life in simple homestead.
